The Double Page Spread (DPS) i choose was pg 4

REPERSENTATIONAL MEANINGS

READING PATH:

The reading path on pg 4 is at the bottom of the page “They came by water.”

Once read it leads your eye up across to the huge ship and the text is written as if it is on water.

 VECTOR:

The first image i  look at is the huge ship and the line drawn around that is that that rabbits are getting of the ship and starting to take over the land. This is showing that the rabbits have arrived and are on the move.

SYMBOL:

The symbol in the DPS 4  is the huge ship which represents Strength and power and that they are here in a large number. It also has a lot of sharp points to show that they are not nice people and are here to hurt others.

MOTIF:

One of the image that is repeated on many of the DPS’ is a flag which has 8 Arrows placed in a star shape. I am not sure what it represents but i think it is a replica of the English flag but with arrows instead to show hurt and destruction.

INTERACTIVE MEANINGS

DEMANDS:

There are no demands on any of the pages in ”The Rabbits.”

OFFERS:

On DPS 3 there is a rabbit is not looking directly at the reader but is looking at a surveying tool to map out the land for the next fleet that we arrive on shores, and they will use the land for farming and making it a settlement.

SOCIAL DISTANCE:

Firstly there are a couple of scientists’ survey the land and in social distance two rabbits which are close and two rabbits which are in the background. with the background.

ANGLE:

On DPS 7 they are looking Horizontally

On DPS 4 they are looking from a low angle following vectors.

On DPS 8 it is a frontal angle.

MODALITY:

On DPS 11 the realism of the text is that the colours on the pages are bright which means the text is really strong.

The text is a dark colour which means that the text is trying to show that it is a bad thing which happened.

There is a lot of detail in the backgroung of this DPS.

COMPOSITIONAL MEANINGS

INFORMATIONAL VALUE:

On DPS 13 the text is at the top right han of the page which represents given/new and ideal/real.

SALIENCE:

On DPS 2 the most noticeable feature in the text is the land composed of yellows, browns, golds and some pinks. This colour scheme is contributing to the main picture in the sense that it helped develop the meaning.

FRAMING:

On DPS 1 the image is framed to show that the image is from a complete different world than ours this means our world has no relations with the world form the picture.

Discuss the meaning of the book and the message?

The meaning of the book is to show how the white men came to Australia and took over the Aboriginals, destroyed their land and brought in new animals.

The message is that the white people did not respect the Aboriginals culture. They were misunderstood and they were the same as the white people but treated differently.

Make a list of some visual techniques that you think help create these meanings.
